LOVING JUSTICE:
12 studies for individual groups
By Bob & Carol Hunter
IVP. 75 pages. £4.99
ISBN 978 1 783 596 928

This set of 12 discussional Bible studies looks at social justice in political, business and personal life.

Examples include: ‘leaders who attend church but behave unethically towards employees’; ‘acceptable worship’ (Isaiah 58); and ‘the temptation of materialism’ (Revelation 12). The booklet refers heavily to American issues (such as racially segregated churches) and has a dated feel (‘our society has relegated women to … the kitchen and the bedroom’).

From a different time

This is unsurprising as it is just a reprint of a booklet published in the USA in 2004. The authors were teachers in a college in Indiana where Carol Hunter, the booklet says, ‘is Professor of History’. In fact she retired from that post in 2013 and died in 2016. A more relevant and updated book would have been a fitting memorial to her work, but we cannot commend this to British churches in 2018.
