Raising Kids is an excellent short book for parents (or anyone involved in bringing up children) by Paul Tautges dad to ten children.
Tautges structures the book around eight ‘signposts’ that mark the landmark truths our kids need to understand. These signposts include: teach them that God is awesome, thrill them with the gospel, and team up with a faithful church. Tautges begins by acknowledging that ‘every kid’s greatest need is to be redeemed by the grace of God, and renewed according to the image of Jesus Christ.’
Each chapter ends with Tautges seeking to apply what he has taught, whether through encouraging us to reflect, asking questions of our parenting, or by giving some top tips.
Biblical parenting
This book helpfully espouses a biblical view of parenting. The compact and easy-to-read style makes this book accessible to all, especially for busy readers with full lives and, indeed, kids to raise!
The strength of this book is that it’s not just a ‘general parenting pick-me-up’, but a book saturated with truths from God’s word coupled with very practical wisdom.
A particular highlight is the end of the book, where Tautages lists a number of age-appropriate questions to begin gospel conversations with your children.
I would highly recommend this book. It speaks wonderful truths into an area that can so often be heavily influenced by the world around us.
