Family devotions

With that in mind, it’s important to structure positive changes and habits particularly in our family devotions.

Let’s start then with a few titles to inspire us.

Our Daily Bread for Kids (ISBN 978 1 627 073 325) has a straightforward format ideal for slotting in before the school run. It is worth noting that this book is half the price of the printed edition when you purchase it on Kindle. Have the book on your device and you can read it with the kids on the go.

Another option for busy mornings would be to purchase a devotional book in audio format – and one that I have come across is Hope for Each Day by Billy Graham. These are very short devotions and adapted from Graham’s writing for adults. The hard cover (ISBN 978 0 718 086 176) or Kindle would equally be a good option for a busy young family.

I was delighted to see that there is a very good deal from The Good Book Company where you can purchase a set of 12 different Table Talk titles by Alison Mitchell for a discount of 50%.

One Year Devotions with Jesus (ISBN 978 1 496 401 243) by Joshua Cooley has been endorsed by two well-known children’s authors, Marty Machowski and Jared Kennedy. Aimed at adolescents, this title covers the pre-incarnate Christ through to the new heaven and the new earth.

Big Beliefs Small Devotions is a title that I have in my Amazon inbox. But just one look at the contents page and knowing that it is from P&R Publishing makes me sure that this is another good family choice (ISBN 978 1 629 951 287). Also this book is written by David Helm – some solid creds.

And if you are looking for solid theological street cred you can’t get better than Sinclair B. Ferguson. Take a look at his new devotional series for tweens – How Jesus Cares (ISBN 978 1 527 108 592), How Jesus Loves (ISBN 978 1 527 108 585) What Jesus Did (978 1 527 107 991) and What Jesus Does (ISBN 978 1 527 107 311). Each little hardback has 31 devotions that include a story, a scripture and a prayer.
