The Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) in partnership with the Free Church of Scotland is to offer a new training course at Edinburgh Theological Seminary (ETS), it was announced in September.
FIEC directors will deliver the lectures alongside other experienced pastors which will enable participating students to obtain a new ETS certificate in ‘Independent Church Ministry’.
FIEC Scotland director Andy Hunter is co-leading the course with Ian Shaw who is director of Langham Scholars UK. Lectures will include ‘Supporting Workers in Independency’ and ‘Independency and Contemporary UK Mission’.
Andy Hunter said: ‘We’re passionate about training men and women to be equipped for gospel ministry in Independent Churches and we’re really pleased this vision has taken a significant step forward in Scotland. We recognise ETS as a provider of excellent theological training who, along with other Scottish training providers, can help people from Independent Churches get the kind of biblical training vital for the future health of their churches.’
Iver Martin, Principal at ETS added: ‘Whatever ecclesiastical differences exist between our churches, in the major issues we speak the same language, recognising the supreme and final authority of the Bible.’
