After the earthquake

Pastor Narayan Bhagat & Dr George Verwer

In April 2015, Nepal was struck by a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that killed thousands of people. A special meeting took place at The Slade Evangelical Church, Plumstead, South London, to mark the anniversary and to hear reports.

The event was organised by India Link Ministries, which had seen around £26,000 raised for its Nepal Relief Fund.

Flown in from Nepal

The meeting included contributions from a Nepalese couple, Pramesh and Raksha Mothey, and Pastor Narayan Bhagat who had flown in from Kathmandu. Pramesh presented a general overview of Nepal. Narayan, who has co-ordinated extensive relief efforts since the earthquake, gave an illustrated report on his work. With finances raised by India Link Ministries, Narayan (who runs a centre for disabled people in Kathmandu) led small international teams throughout the months following the earthquake, which included people from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, Russia, USA and the UK. They distributed rice, corrugated roofing material and other essential supplies, and shared the gospel.
