Ground-breaking new research has been released on the state of faith and perceptions of Jesus in the UK.
A startling 45% of UK adults claim they believe in the resurrection. This is just one of many fascinating findings from ‘Talking Jesus’ research which was released today (28 April) as en came out.
At a special online launch event, the Evangelical Alliance (EA), Hope Together, Alpha, Luis Palau Association and Kingsgate Community Church shared the results of the research. They include:
What is the state of faith in the UK?
• 48% of the UK population describe themselves as Christian.
• Of these, 6% count as the report’s definition of ‘practising Christian’ in the UK.
How do people see Jesus?
• 20% of the UK adult population believe that Jesus is God.
• 54% of the UK adult population believe Jesus is a real historical person.
• 45% of the UK adult population say they believe in the resurrection.
What do people think about Christians?
• 53% of non-Christians know a practising Christian
• Non-Christians like the practising Christians that they know, but are less positive about the church.
Are people chatting about Jesus?
• 55% of non-Christians who know a practising Christian have had a conversation with that Christian.
How do people come to faith?
• 34% of practising Christians say that growing up in a Christian family was the top influence in bringing them to faith
• 24% say that reading the Bible was a key influence (this goes up to 38% of practising Christians who are 18–24 year olds).
