Anxious people in an anxious world – that was the theme of a conference held in north London recently.
The event was held at Emmanuel North London Church, Southgate, which every year hosts a get-together under the umbrella title ‘Raising Expectations’.
Darren Moore writes: The title was The Age of Anxiety: Anxious People in an Anxious World. The speakers were Dr Cory Brock (Assistant Minister of St Columba Edinburgh, pictured right) and Steve Hayhow (Minister, Emmanuel Southgate, pictured left). Brock did the opening and third talks on What is Anxiety? and Addressing Anxiety. Hayhow spoke second and last on Why is This an Anxious World? and Life in the Mist: How Ecclesiastes Addresses Anxiety.
The subject matter could not be more relevant to our time. The talks were candid, practical and Biblical, helping us to deal with our own anxieties and to help others who are often paralysed by it. I recommend them – you can find them on Emmanuel’s website northlondonchurch.org
The speaker for next year’s conference ‘theologian in has been confirmed as en’s residence’, Matthew Mason, who lectures on ethics and contemporary studies at London Seminary and Pastors’ Academy.
