Several youngsters aged just 10 to 13 years came to faith at this year’s Evangelical Movement of Wales (EMW) camp, the camp chaplain has reported.
John Funnell, who is also pastor at Noddfa Baptist Church, described how he was brought to tears when every camper stayed and prayed following the morning sermons on the final three days. ‘This has never happened before,’ he added.
The theme of the EMW camp, held in Bala, was Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. ‘We began the teaching with the Golden Ticket, the Gospel, that all received on Sunday morning at Bala Evangelical Church (Mark 4:1-20)’, Funnell writes in a blog post.
‘Each service worked through the children’s classic looking at how the various characters lost their opportunity to chew on the eternal gobstopper.’ Unlike other characters Charlie Bucket remained humble, valued his ticket and embraced every opportunity it gave him: he inherited the Chocolate Factory.
Wonka-themed evening Bible studies looked at our inheritance in Christ. Funnell said: ‘This posed many delightful and deep questions that the officers worked through in their small group’ – questions around assurance, why does God allow suffering and how to love and support peers within the LGBT community.
