Bibles opened in Bulgaria

Students from the UK have formed a mission team with UCCF to Bulgaria for the first time in eight years.

A team of students from university CUs across the Midlands, led by two staff from UCCF (the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship), spent a fortnight teaching local students English while providing an opportunity to study God’s word with them.

University of Birmingham student, Sophie, recollected her time away: ‘The Bulgarian summer project had God’s love right at its core. It was so encouraging to see God’s love breaking the boundaries of nationality, culture, language, and personality type. The project grew my passion and love for God’s people and my heart for mission.’

Darian (name changed), a Christian from Bulgaria, was very supportive of these morning Bible studies and encouraged his friends to attend. One student in particular, Sasho (name changed), attended almost every devotional session, even when Darian couldn’t make it.

Over the days, the team saw Sasho become engrossed in what the Bible has to say. They were delighted to answer his questions about faith, the meaning of life and reason for the cross. The mission team are praying that Sasho, and many others will continue to ask questions.

UK student Anna said: ‘It was a true joy to experience the beauty of God’s cross-cultural community, built upon the unity we find in Him. Being united in Christ – what a gift this is!’

The team were based in Tryavna in central Bulgaria, and in the capital, Sofia.
