In September Iran will have a new translation of the Bible.
For 18 years Elam Ministries and a major Bible translation agency have been working to provide Persian speakers with an accurate and modern version of the Scriptures. Their work is now finished and on September 22 Christian leaders from Iran and around the world will gather in Church House, Westminster for a service of dedication for this Bible.
Sam Yeghnazar, the founder and director of Elam Ministries, has no doubt about the impact that this Bible will have on the Iran region: ‘There is an unprecedented demand for the Bible throughout Iran. Thousands of Iranians are turning to Christ and the first thing they want is a Bible. In 2003 Elam Ministries published the new translation of the New Testament. It has been extremely popular in Iran. Already over a million copies have been printed and thousands of lives have been enriched. Iran’s Christians pay a heavy price for receiving and distributing Christian Scriptures. This year at least 60 Christians in Iran are in prison for their faith; some of them for possessing New Testaments. Despite this danger, Iran’s Christians want the Bible, whatever the cost.
