Reports in June from the family of Asia Bibi suggest the mother of five is now suffering from intestinal bleeding and requires urgent medical treatment.
The 50-year-old Pakistani Christian women is being held on death row for alleged blasphemy, a charge she vehemently denies, after being accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad. She has been described by her family as ‘so weak she can hardly walk’.
Her family rushed back from a tour of Europe during which they sought to galvanise support for Asia in Western nations. None of them had seen Asia for over a month. According to information provided to MasLibres, the tour organiser, stomach problems developing for months have worsened to the point that she is now suffering from intestinal bleeding.
Asia Bibi is struggling to eat, has visible traces of blood when vomiting and is suffering severe intestinal pains which is causing great distress. Her solicitors have challenged the Pakistani authorities to provide her with better health care and a thorough medical investigation.
Lawyers acting for her family are trying to get Asia moved to Lahore Jail, where the family lives, as the journey to Multan Jail is extremely long and tiring.
