A social-media post by Early Rain Church dated 20 March reported that 11 members are still in criminal detention since December, including the pastor and his wife, with others having ‘gone missing’ in April.
Pastor Wang Yi and his wife Jiang Rong were charged with ‘inciting subversion’. Over 300 people have been arrested from the church in four months.
Rewarding informers
Pressure is mounting on landlords to put members of the church out of their homes. It was reported in early April that Chinese citizens will receive financial rewards for identifying unofficial places of worship.
A Chinese Christian journalist, also a church deacon, was arrested after writing about how the elderly mother of Wang Yi was held down and savagely beaten by a police officer for not telling him her PIN at an ATM.
Among the many arrests were 10 children and a two-month old baby.
