Following consistent efforts to reach Spanish-speaking Latin America, Christianity Explored (CE) announced in April that 1,250 people have been trained in mission using the course.
That figure represents an average of 100 evangelists in nine countries: Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, and Chile.
The Prisoner’s Journey®, a prison adaptation of CE delivered in partnership with Prison Fellowship International, is already well established in this region, with nearly 35,000 Latin American prisoners graduating from the programme in 2018 alone.
Need among Roman Catholics
However, there is also great need and opportunity to reach the general population in these countries. In Uruguay, for example, over half of its 3.4m residents claim to be Roman Catholics, but only about 2% attend Mass regularly.
In this latest effort to reach people with the gospel, CE partnered with Bolivia-based Kep James of SIM to provide evangelistic training and CE resources to church pastors. James organises many mission conferences across Latin America and manages the overall training programme.
Need among the poorly taught
26,000 copies of Mark’s Gospel have been provided for people to give away to their non-Christian contacts in these nations.
The CE materials have been helpful in addressing the errors of the prosperity gospel which flourishes in Latin America.
