A pastor in Peru has brought the gospel into homes and enhanced the education opportunities of many children by leading the way on the installation of an Internet antenna for his village.
Pastor Luis said: ‘We surveyed all the families to see how we can best serve our children during this time of crisis. We had already been following up with them, distributing food and hygiene kits. The results of the survey surprised us. Education and remote learning had become the biggest problem in our community.’
Working alongside a centre run by Compassion, the antenna brought the Internet to homes that otherwise would have been unable to access home learning, church services and devotionals due to a lack of Wi-Fi. Until the installation, money for food had been sacrificed for data by many families.
‘We believe in sharing the gospel through both words and actions, and now all of the 426 children registered at the Compassion centre will receive the Internet service for free.’
The financing for it comes from the offering of affordable plans to everyone in the village, which is less than what they would normally pay to a regular Internet company. ‘With that, we’ll cover the cost of maintenance and miscellaneous expenses to operate the antenna,’ explained Pastor Luis. He concluded: ‘We want to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name, to give them a better quality of life. We’re also excited about families getting online to hear God’s word from now on.’
