Sudan: ‘To do life amid such destruction is difficult’

Christians in Sudan have called for a legitimate peace process, featuring genuine civilian representation, to bring an end to the bitter civil war engulfing the nation, but they “do not have any hope” of a satisfactory resolution.

The calls have been made following representation from those loyal to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, in a move seen by many Christians as problematic, due to them being one of the two warring parties, alongside the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as revealed by Open Doors.

Hope among believers for a lasting cessation of hostilities is low in light of such developments. Open Doors’ Sub-Saharan Africa spokesperson Jo Newhouse (name changed for security reasons) told en: “[Christians] do not have any hope of a satisfactory resolution to the ongoing conflict unless the parties are pressured by the international community to agree to an immediate ceasefire and to enter negotiations that include more than only the armed forces.
