Dear Editor,
David Clark, August EN, encouraged us to use social media to spread the gospel.
On Facebook we can post simple, short current testimonies about God answering prayer or speaking to us (but care must be taken not to break confidences). Another possibility is to post a short message with an appropriate illustration that relates some current event or topic to the gospel. This can reach people, especially those close to us, in an unthreatening way. As ever, what we say must be backed by the way we live.
During church services why not, at a suitable point, ask the congregation to switch on their mobile phones there and then and text a friend saying I love you, God loves you and I am in church praying for you? Then later invite folk to share the responses they have had. This has to be done sensitively and sparingly, but I can remember one service where this was done and a friend being so excited when the reply from her non-Christian friend was one of amazement because she had been thinking about the one who sent the text and God when the text arrived.
Yours faithfully,
