I thoroughly enjoy reading en and appreciate articles which are helpful in the Christian life. However, once again, I do take issue with you on your persistent political stance on the meaning of being British. In the piece on the Scottish referendum on the front page of the October issue there are specific points of major misconceptions.
1. You call into question whether a ‘mere majority’ would be enough for such a ‘momentous step’. Democracy is not perfect but would you prefer any other form of government?
2. In the same sentence you mention the break up of ‘our country’! Exactly what country do you mean? Britain is an amalgamation of countries with their own distinct history, culture and language. Talking about ‘our country’ in this context absolutely refuses to recognize this.
3. To confirm my point, you ask ‘why should the Scots be treated differently from say the Welsh or the Cornish people or the people of Merseyside’ inferring that Scotland and Wales are no more than regions such as Merseyside. This is a blatant insult to all patriotic Scots and Welsh people.
I would like to suggest that you include balanced viewpoints in your articles from now on otherwise en is in danger of becoming a mouthpiece for the British establishment throughout the four countries of the Union!
