Your article (en Jan 2015) ‘BBC: dedicated to whom?’ discusses ‘hostility’ by the BBC to Christianity.
Christianity is a soft target for the secular media because it allows its followers only ‘weak’ tools to defend it. Christians must confound their attackers through reasoned argument, love in action, patience, consistent character and through behaviours which prove true and noble in their outcomes.
It must proclaim truth through preaching and apologetics using modern mediums such as art and the internet (a space where many Christians are operating).
The depth, relevance and durability of Christianity does not register with postmod-erns. Postmodernity seeks to undermine ‘meta narratives’ (history). The result is half truths mixed with plain ignorance i.e. mumbo jumbo.
The media’s supposition that anyone is qualified to pontificate about Christianity without serious study or the experience of the Christian faith is a symptom of the loss of intellectual rigour inherent in postmodernity.
Most educated people, whether Christian or not, still value quality, accuracy, impartiality and rationality. My impression is that live broadcast media is no longer ‘trusted’, as it once was, and that TV producers’ ideas of what people enjoy and their substitute ‘meta narratives’ are boring audiences. I found little to enjoy on TV over Christmas (in spite of paying for it) and borrowed films on DVD from the library (costing £2 each).
Christians rarely act to make the media think twice about attacking their faith. When do audience members on BBC’s ‘Question Time’ declare their faith or share informed views on political issues. C. S. Lewis thought the gospel should be preached subversively so that even the secular world is entranced. Where are such courageous cutting-edge Christian artists, communicators and apologists today?
