Educating the next generation

Dear Sir,

Why does the church not teach young people about abortion? One of the out-comes of fighting coronavirus has been the sudden authorisation by the Department of Health on 30 March of DIY abortions [see the article ‘Extreme UK Abortion Changes Sneak Through’ in the May issue of en]. Thankfully, the dangers of this for a woman’s health, the ever-increasing danger to the lives of the unborn and questions about who is actually authorising changes in the law are all being taken up by Christian Concern, who have taken these matters to the courts.

But have you ever heard of a church youth group educating young people about when and how life begins, what is involved in abortion and why it is wrong?

The Christian charity Lovewise mailed approximately 550 evangelical churches with details of a revised online presentation explaining the facts about abortion. Only eight copies have been sold. Why do we avoid this subject? If we want to save lives, if we want to protect women, if we want a robust Christian response for the future, we must educate the next generation about what abortion really involves and give them a clear understanding of why it is wrong.

Young people desperately need biblical guidance. We must not fail to address this issue, however difficult it may seem.

Yours sincerely,
