I was so pleased to read in the June en that the church in Walthamstow is now open again for worship.
It was on 30 September 1945 that I was baptised in the old church by my father, Pastor W. R. Scrivener.
We knew Pastor Ernest Kevin very well and although my church was in Chingford we did not at that time have a baptistry, so we often went to Walthamstow Church.
I have a copy of the book, The Oldest Baptist Church, which is very interesting.
Ernest Kevin, while he was pastor at Walthamstow in 1942, asked my father to pastor the church in Chingford which had closed down. So the family moved to Chingford in 1943. At the time there were only two members, but the church grew so quickly that we had to build a larger place.
I was married in this church by Ernest Kevin in 1956.
I was sorry when they demolished the old church, but God’s church is people and so the work goes on.
I pray that the church will grow and become a great witness in Walthamstow.
