Housework and the husband's role

Dear Editor,

In Lois McCrea’s article discussing the problems working mums face there was one very notable omission. The husband and his contribution to running family life was not mentioned once.

Single parents do have particular problems to which the church fellowship should have special regard but, apart from breast feeding, there is not a single job in the home that a husband cannot participate in helping and achieving. Eve was created as a “helpmeet” for Adam (Gen. 2:18), but the helping is surely a mutual position, one toward the other. In a day when both partners are at work then the domestic work must also be for both partners.

Our parents also lived a long way from us, so we paired up with another similar couple in the church with a young family and we babysat for them once a month, and they for us, so we knew that at least once a month we could have an evening together as a couple. One of the great joys of married life is that you are in it together!

Yours sincerely,

Dear Editor,

Many thanks for another excellent edition of Evangelicals Now. The article about supporting working mums has many fine points but surely one great support should be her husband! Yes, he gets a mention as one of the “good gifts”, but it is not clear if he is just another “priority” to be attended to by the busy wife. There is no mention of me, as husband, properly supporting my wife. Thanks, that lets me off!!

Yours sincerely
