The Applebrook Trilogy is another triumph for Mary Weeks Millard.
It deals with life in World War Two for a group of evacuees in a delightful Somerset village. The children, who were not related, all arrived from differing backgrounds and challenging situations. One had come on the Kindertransport from Austria, another from worn-torn Singapore and others from bombed homes in London.
Love of Jesus
They learn to live, learn and laugh together. Through it all the love of Jesus becomes real to them and especially to the Jewish girl from Austria.
This series of books has a ‘Think Zone’ at the end which acts rather like the application of a children’s address – a sympathetic explanation which is not too heavy!
The books would be appropriate for children aged eight to ten. A little background knowledge of WW2 would be helpful!
