I was looking forward to reading this book. It's on a theme that I always warm to and so I really thought I would enjoy it. Basically, I completely agree with what the author says, but the way he said it really annoyed me.
For instance, he makes up a word. A very ugly awkward word, ‘awe wrongedness’ (AWN), and proceeds to use it a lot. He also has a tendency to use whole strings of descriptive words that make me feel I am being beaten into the ground by them. He never seems to consider that succinctness can mean more and carry more weight.
Statements like ‘our parenting must be guided by a great big awe agenda' are not endearing to me, nor are the frequent references to ‘awe amnesia’.
I do not really want to be negative as I think this book is biblical and theologically sound and the topic is an important one – that of making God central and letting this affect every aspect of your life. So, if you can read it and not get impatient with the author, then you will probably really benefit. And I hope you do.
