Dear Editor,
How timely is the article by Joseph Steinberg (“After Bondi: I am Jewish – this is how it feels today,” 15 December). It is also saddening that it takes a Jew to raise awareness of the current plight of his people, rather than a gentile Christian.
Because of my work I am involved with my local Jewish community and am privileged to have them as friends. I can witness to exactly the same reactions as Joseph Steinberg describes: fear, disbelief, the desire to be invisible, etc. There are also comments of how like the 1930s the current climate is and, as Joseph Steinberg notes, how silent the majority of the church was in those days and throughout the Holocaust.
