This book is a very personal story. It’s written in an engaging style and contains the story of how Dave and Anne Bookless felt the power of a scriptural call to take the care of God’s creation seriously.
It develops the story of how they became involved in the establishment of the UK wing of A Rocha. Along the way a number of helpful elements emerge.
There’s a description of the challenges faced by third-culture kids as they experience the challenges of making cultural adjustments. There are honest accounts of the sacrifices borne by individuals and families as they pursue Christian vision and ministry. There’s an encouraging narrative about the unfolding of a Christian ministry as God provides the necessary resources at the right time but often at the last minute.
And running through the whole account is a challenge to the reader to take the whole business of caring for the creation very seriously because the Creator calls us to do so. Dave Bookless and his family did far more than nod in the direction of green issues. They went a lot further than buying a few low energy light bulbs. So, their story is a challenge in itself.
The volume doesn’t contain a developed biblical theology behind the A Rocha ministry, but you can go to Planetwise (a companion book) for that. Neither does it have an ending (the story isn’t yet finished). But, it’s an honest description of a radical and costly obedience to the call of God and well worth the investment.
